LAP is a deductive game similar to Battleship where players must deduce their opponent's secret map.
🎯 Objective
Correctly deduce your opponent's map before they figure yours out. If you guess correctly, you win. If you guess wrong, you lose!
🎮 Setup Phase
Creating Your Secret Map:
- Each player secretly creates their map by dividing the grid into four regions
- Each region must be exactly the same size (e.g., 5 squares on 5×4 board)
- Each region must be contiguous (all squares connected)
- Use the four different patterns to mark your regions
- Click "Submit Secret Map" when done
Player vs Computer: The computer automatically generates a valid secret map for you to deduce.
🔍 Gameplay - Taking Turns
Players alternate turns. On each turn:
- Probe: Click a grid corner (vertex) to ask about that position
- Information: You'll see how many of each pattern touch that corner (0-4 for each color)
- Deduce: Use the information to mark your guess on your deduction grid
- Rearrange: Update your hypothesis as you gather more information
Continue probing and deducing until you believe you know your opponent's map!
🎨 Making Deductions
- Select Pattern: Click one of the 4 pattern cards at the top
- Mark Cells: Click grid cells to place your selected pattern
- Erase: Press 0 or click the same pattern again to erase
- Undo/Redo: Use buttons or keyboard shortcuts to fix mistakes
🏆 Winning & Scoring
Single Winner: If only one player guesses correctly, they win!
Both Correct: The player who used fewer probes wins
Both Wrong: Both players lose
Strategy tip: Try to deduce the map with as few probes as possible!
📐 Board Variants
- 5×4 (Warmup): Easier - 4 regions of 5 squares each
- 6×6 (Regular): Standard - 4 regions of 9 squares each
- 8×6 (Challenge): Harder - 4 regions of 12 squares each

💡 Strategy Tips
- Corner probes often give the most information
- Keep track of which patterns you've identified
- Look for patterns that must fit in remaining spaces
- Each color appears exactly the same number of times
